The Idiot Box - Behind the Scenes

Please Enjoy our Behind the Scenes view of The Idiot Box!

Here's the skinny on how we put this video together!

Assignment 3: Video Creation

Group 2: The Idiot Box – Grace, Jeremy, Yulia & Michelle

Q1. The challenges and tribulations of being a group assignment

The main challenge we faced was to actually choose what the video should be about. Our blog content is related to reviewing and rating TV shows across a number of different genres; this made it difficult to actually think of what to film that would be relevant.

We didn’t want to make it boring of us just watching TV shows or just having clips from TV shows which we already have up. We finally came up with the idea of introducing ourselves to the readers, which is simple and still relevant to our Blog.

All the members of the team are studying in different areas outside of Information Technology. Because we’re all on different timetables we didn’t have a time suitable to meet and record our video outside of the practical sessions. This meant that all the filming and editing had to take place in 1-2 lab sessions.

Q2. The process of creating the video

1st Stage

The group finalised the running order and style of the video and completed the script allocating parts to each member.

2nd Stage

We arranged a space outside the lab to film our introductions. This included straight to camera pieces with members introducing themselves and which part of the Blog they’re responsible for.

3rd Stage

We arranged a space inside the lab and filmed the remaining section of our video, which involved three members of the team showing the different activities that go into the making of the blog: 1) watching shows 2) editing posts 3) uploading posts.

4th Stage

Still in the computer lab, we filmed the final part of the video – the closing statement that Jeremy completed straight to camera.

5th Stage

Editing – initially we had intended to complete the editing in the computer lab during the practical, however the camera that we used required a firewire cable to upload the video to the PC and we did not have one available. This meant that the video had to be edited at home using iMovie HD for Mac. When the editing was in process, it was discovered that one of the clips filmed did not save correctly, consequently one of the ‘to camera’ pieces from Yulia is absent from the finished product.

In addition to the content from the filmed portions, beginning and end titles were added as well as music and an additional audio file that relates to some of the content on the Blog.

6th Stage

Finally, the video was compressed into a Quicktime file and uploaded onto the blog using the Blogger uploading tool.

Q3. How does the video relate to your Blog?

The Blog is about watching and reviewing different TV shows, each team member chose a different genre of TV to review, which includes: Anime, Drama, Comedy and Reality TV. The video relates to the Blog because it shows the different steps that are required to create the posts. It also invites readers to contribute ideas and or suggestions of other TV shows we could review – creating an interactive opportunity for the readers.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta - Blogs - Sheree Whitfield - "Who Gon' Check Me, Boo?" | Bravo TV Official Site

Well - here's a turn up for the books - an official TV site blog that actually has some good content included!

Normally, show blogs which are clearly a contractual obligation for the members of the cast, are very scripted and don't provide an great insight into the things we watch on the show - Bravo TV have clearly gone for the opposite style here.

In line with Episode 1 of Season 2 which I blogged about earlier Sheree has provided a 'full and frank' explanation of what happened with the party planner fight seen in the video I shared.

Here's the Sheree Whitfield Blog:
The Real Housewives of Atlanta - Blogs - Sheree Whitfield - "Who Gon' Check Me, Boo?" | Bravo TV Official Site

And my comments to Sheree on her first post, in case it doesn't show up (moderated):

"Wow Sheree - that's some long explanation for what happened!

Season 2 has only just started airing here in Australia and I have to say I was shocked by the behaviour of the Party Planner - however it did make good TV.

I really don't understand how someone can promote a ticketed event on the basis of you showing up when you clearly were not going to - more fool those people who went I guess when they should have known better.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Shelsta78"

You can find all the other Atlanta Housewives blogs here.

I'd recommend them as they actually do bother to give their side of the story to each episode - just watch out for spoilers!

For once I'll congratulate Bravo.TV for doing a good job on official blogs - there's just not enough of them!

The Fuzzy Boot Corollary

Episode three...

Continual good effort from the guys at the big bang theory. The story line is kept fresh, the jokes are crisp and the quirkiness tasteful, making one hilarious, salad like, sitcom.

Th ep. starts where Leonard is crushed when he sees Penny kissing another man in the hallway. Faced with the bleak reality of his chances with Penny, he turns his affections toward Leslie, a fellow scientist at the university. His advances, while partially successful, are less than satisfying.

While Sheldon sees no possible future for Leonard and Penny, he feels sympathy for Leonard and suggests that he ask Penny on an actual date. The date, ending with quiet hilarious consequences, rounds off with Leonard's happiness towards the date. Leaving people like me with a nice FUZZY feeling inside.

Is Chuck really like his father? With his hotel under control of Uncle Jack, his only option to get it back is to make a deal with the devil, to trick Blair to go and spend a night with Jack Bass.

Blair is torn, to helping Chuck get his hotel back that would mean to sleep with Jack and she wouldn't do it even if he was the last man on earth. But her love for Chuck and seeing him at his lowest she decides to go and meet with Jack to discover that she was set up.
Is Blair really calling it quits with Chuck, will they make it through?

Oh and Jenny is trying to come in between of Nate and Serena so she can get Nate all to herself. Sneaky sneaky I say.

Chuck and Blair are my favourite couple on the show and beacuse of their split I rate this episode:

Gossip Girl Season Three

Gossip Girl

Season Three

The latest, the most current and the season that is running now on our TV; season three.
We can't get enough of gossip girl and this season it's more steamer. Say goodbye to highschool gossip and welcome the college drama. For Blair college means NYU, and with college comes no friends and only familiar face of Vanessa and Dan. Serena on other hand didn't even step foot at Brown but decided to take a year off to focus on what she wants to do with her life.
We follow Blair as she tries to get friends and rise up, Chuck is trying to make a profit by running his father's company before his 21 and end meets his real mother, or is she just an impostor? Serena gets involved with a married senator and Dan and Vanessa finally get together after such a wait.
Don't miss anything, its just getting juicier with each episode.

From what I've seen so far, this season does make me sit on the edge of my seat and ill give it:

The Big Bran Hypothesis

Episode two...

In short... it'll leave you in stitches, much like the first episode.

In this installment the development of the relationship between the two main characters of Leonard and Sheldon is further developed. The two constantly fight like an old married couple in this episode, with hilarious results!

Also in this episode, The boys decide to break into Penny's apartment across the hall.... to clean it.... further enhancing the pairs comedic quarrels and mishaps.

All in all, a hilarious episode for the geek and non geek alike.

Real Housewives of Atlanta - The 'Kimtervention' Episode

Wow - Episode two had even more drama than the season opener, if it's possible!

In this episode, Ne Ne and Sheree decide to 'bury the hatchet' so to speak with Kim, whom they ended on bad terms with at the end of Season 1.

Both Sheree and Ne Ne had heard that Kim had been spreading rumours about them and their financial situations around Atlanta. In Season 1, Ne Ne and Kim, originally close had fallen out over Ne Ne making fun of her so called Music career (see 'Sneek Peak' earlier in this blog).

With this complicated background of she said she said - this second episode where the girls all meet for dinner was bound to be firey.

What actually happened - was totally out of control.

Ne Ne and Sheree confront Kim about the lies she has reportedly been telling about them, which Kim denies. Sheree will not let that denial go and continues to have a go at Kim about being a liar.

Kim then decides to leave the dinner and is followed out on to the street by Ne Ne and Sheree - where a physical altercation ensues. Sheree even attempts to remove Kim's wig - apparently a very 'big' crime in Atlanta!

The episode really didn't contain a lot more than this fight in the street. Kandi did appear for a short burst, but none of the others were really involved.

The fight really didn't have a lot to it, and it seemed that it was a lot of drama for no reason - but of course, it does set up a platform for a lot more fighting for the rest of the season... Or am I just being cynical?

Gossip Girl Season Two

Gossip Girl

Image taken from http://byfallenangel.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/gossip-girl.png

Season Two

It's the senior year and the game is on to get an offer from one of the elite colleges in the country. Ways to try and get inot the college of your dreams; blackmail, stop a 15 year old losing her virginity, and sweet talk anyone who can make a difference. If only college stress was the only thing to worry about for the senior students but season two brings more than just that for us to watch.

New romance are formed. Blair has a hand at Lord Macus and even gets Chuck at the end after never endless chase. Serena is on and off with Dan but has a go at her childhood lover, Gabriel.

The death of Chuck's father sends him into a breakdown with booze and drugs and it seems not even Blair can straighten him out.
With school almost over and graduation being so close, the characters sure make the most of this season.

The Season is focusing on who's going to end up with whom and the seduction and the chasing makes me give this season:

One Piece - Episode 4

This episode is where we learn about Luffy's past and the whole story behind his straw hat. The story is very beautiful and touching in it's own way. It's also nice to see a character to have such a in depth past, and true reason for what they are doing

Not only that but after the flash back, the anime returned to it's wonderful hilarious self with funny close ups of Luffy's face as he is falling.

I give this episode a 8/10

Gossip Girl

Season 1

This is the first season where we get sucked into the life of Upper East Side.

What gets us hooked is the fashion, the fights, love traingles and dark secrets and the never ending drama. It brings excitement into our own life.

The season starts off with Serena arriving from boarding school and this is where the drama begins with her and her BFF, Blair who is raging war against Serena who wasn't there for her when her dad left her mum for another man. The reason for her disappearance is exposed with the arrival of Georgina and on top of it Serena has to cope with her suicidal brother, Eric in rehab. We get an inside of the characters, Dan and Jenny who are brother and sister who live in Brooklyn with their father. Dan gets into the life of Upper East Side after starting to date Serena and Jennny tries to get into Blair's circle of friends. Nate is Blair's prince but everyone finds out about his first time with Serena before she disappeared. Chuck Bass is Bass. Lily is Serena's mum who tries to hide the dramas of her family a secret and is gets married to Bart Bass, Chuck's father at the end of the season.

This season provides the foundation for all the next seasons to come. The glamour life of Upper East Side and the dramas around all the characters makes me give this season:

One piece- Episode 3 Review

One Piece- Episode 3

Continuing on from the second episode, episode 3 is damn amazing. I'm totally in love with it and it's probably one of my favorite anime episodes ever. It's hilarious, heroic and just beauitiful. The line "It was nothing, Captain" just made me squeal in happiness... if you watch it, you will know what i mean :)

I believe all anime lovers should watch this anime and this episode. Though of course you would have to watch episode one and two to get what is happening.

I give this episode a 10/10

and again...I can't wait to watch the next episode :)

The big bang theory – Episode 1

AND IT ALL STARTED WITH THE BIG BANG!

This gem of a comedy series was released in late 2007 and has thrived ever since. Based on the wacky adventures or the rather hilarious yet mandatory events, this sitcom will leave in stitches and wanting more.
The sitcom follows the lives of a rather “geeky” group of friends and their quite attractive flat mate Penny (Kaley Cuoco, 8 Simple Rules) who are introduced right away in the first episode. The hilarity of the episode is immense with the fantastic blend of sarcasm, wit and side-splitting one-liners.
The episode, although an introductory one, sets a beautiful platform for the rest of the show. The tension between the very different traits among the geek and the beauty, works to great affect and the ability to relate to the characters, if you’re a nerd or not, ads to this.
All in all, a FANTASTIC sitcom for its time. Light years a head of other, somewhat boring, new sitcoms. However yet to rival the juggernauts in the biz like that of Seinfeld for example.

8/10

Real Housewives of Atlanta Episode 1, Season 2

Loved by TV personalities across America, including Ellen DeGeneres and CNN's Anderson Cooper, the Real Housewives of Atlanta has become one of the most popular of the Bravo.TV franchise.

Season 2 premiered in Australia on 13th of April 2010. Filmed in 2009, many of the season's so called 'scandals' had already beens hared with Australian audiences via the Bravo TV official site and other fan sites, including entertainment news network eOnline.

Despite this gab in release date between America and Australia, this series has been highly anticipated by fans of the Housewives franchise in Australia, after a stunning conclusion to the New Jersey series just two weeks earlier.

In Season 2 there is a new House Wife added to the the mix, in Kandi - she joins return players from Season one, Lisa, Ne Ne, Kim and Sheree.

Opening up the season we are told a few key change of life elements since we last saw the 'gals'.

  • Kim has broken up with her partner
  • Sheree's divorce has been finalised and she has been forced to move house due to her maintenance not being paid
  • Lisa's husband has lost his NFL contract and is currently unemployed and they have moved house
  • Ne Ne has had to move house to the same neighbourhood as Lisa (reasons to become known later in the season)

For a group of girls who love the 'drama' they've sure got a lot to start off with.

Episode one, mainly spends time catching up with these most recent changes to their lives and also spends time introducing Kandi who is a Grammy award winning song writer and former girl band member. Her most noteable success being the single 'No Scrubs' which she wrote and was performed by early 90's girl band TLC.

The most dramatic element, which has since received expansive comentary on fan pages an the official show blog on Bravo.TV featured Sheree. Sheree, recently divorced decided to have an 'Independence' party to celebrate her new single life. A disagreement with her party planner gets way out of hand and the veins in Sheree's neck take over! Whatch a snapshot here:

Episode two promises to be just as explosive.

Stay tuned for the answers to why Kim is performing on Ellen with her single "Don't be Tardy for the Party" which I shared yesterday as well as all the gossip behind the many house moves that have taken place amongst the wives in the past year.

avatar - Shelsta78

Sneek Peek - Don't be Tardy to the Party

This is Kim Zolciak - Tardy for the Party "live" on Ellen.

Kim is one of the most controversial 'Housewives' on the The Real House Wives of Atlanta, Season 2 which is currently airing in Australia on the Arena TV channel on Foxtel.
Stay tuned to find out just how it is that Kim has a single out and has managed to appear on Ellen (Degeneres) to perform it.

"Hotlanta" certainly is 'Hot' with these Housewives in town!

One piece- Episode 2 Review

One Piece - Episode 2

Now we are all introduced to the amazing swordsman, Zoro. This character is just damn awesome, he's hilarious and a great fighter. In this episode, Zoro and Luffy meet... Zoro is obviously caught, but I won't give away anymore :)

All I can say is this episode is wonderful. With its beautiful characters, from a cold man that loves kids and a man with a god complex, and hilarious jokes, no wonder One Piece is one of the most popular animes. On top of it all, this epsiode has a wonderful ending.

I highly reccomend watching this series and this epsiode :)
Therefore I give this a 9/10

One piece- Episode 1 Review

One Piece - Episode 1

No Ninjas, this time it's Pirates!!!

With overexaggerated expressions and the ever oblivious and carefree main characer this anime is just darn fun.

This episode is just full of awesome. Not only is it full of action and comedy but it also has pirates with abilities that could closest be called super powers from eating 'the devil fruit'. For example, Luffy, the main character is a 'Rubber man'

I absolutely love this show with its themes of courage , believing in yourself and you can do anything. I can't wait to see the next episode

I give this episode a 9/10

and that's only because I'm being stingy and don't believe an episode introducing the anime should get a higher mark.

THAT Animeblog review

THAT Anime Blog

http://that.animeblogger.net/

I think this blog is quite a nice one that reviews anime episodes of different animes. It gives me an idea to review anime episodes of different animes instead of one anime, like I was planning.

There is also a nice header that truly incoprorates the idea of anime and fun. The navigation is easy and user friendly and the gadgets on the side are interesting and useful. The site also has an about page and many anime reviewers which I think is really good, because to get so many and so many good reviewers is hard work. The blog posts are frequent, aren't too long and have nice pictures to explain the anime and episode.

All this counted, I give this site a ..... 8/10

MariaHolic Episode 1 Review

Maria Holic - Episode 1

One of my friends told me to watch this anime for a laugh and well...
This is probably one of the most random and strange anime I have ever seen. This anime are the ones that give animes a strange name. Sure anime's a strange to begin with....but 99% of them aren't about a lesbian coming to an all girl school to find her true love... finding a really beauitful girl she wants to have as her girlfriend...only to find out that they are a cross dressing guy!!!

Not only does the anime manage to reveal this all in one episode but it also actually managed to have some really funny scenes. That has got to be its reviving point. The only thing that makes this episode (I'm not too sure about the whole anime...) worth watching is thefact that you can't stop laughing at how random the whole thing is.

Therefore I will actually give it a 5/10

If you would like to watch it just to be shocked and have a laugh here is a link of google

Blog Plan!

BLOG PLAN

Hello all,

As a group we have decided that we are going to do a blog about reviewing and rating tv shows. I (Grace) will be the 'expert' in anime because I love anime so much. Jeremy will be the 'expert' in comedy because he wants to rate the big bang theory :P. Michelle wants to be the reality tv 'expert' because of obvious reasons of her loving those shows and finally Yulia will be the drama 'expert' as she wants to rate and review gossip girls and so on.
We also decided we will do at least 4 posts each, 1 being a review on another blog so we defiently go over the minimum of blog posts. That has pretty much all we have planned... other then me having to update #isys100 every 3 days or so in the break and choosing the design.

O and by the way here is the Story Board:

That's it for now. I guess we will make our blog posts and see :)
