The Idiot Box - Behind the Scenes

Please Enjoy our Behind the Scenes view of The Idiot Box!

Here's the skinny on how we put this video together!

Assignment 3: Video Creation

Group 2: The Idiot Box – Grace, Jeremy, Yulia & Michelle

Q1. The challenges and tribulations of being a group assignment

The main challenge we faced was to actually choose what the video should be about. Our blog content is related to reviewing and rating TV shows across a number of different genres; this made it difficult to actually think of what to film that would be relevant.

We didn’t want to make it boring of us just watching TV shows or just having clips from TV shows which we already have up. We finally came up with the idea of introducing ourselves to the readers, which is simple and still relevant to our Blog.

All the members of the team are studying in different areas outside of Information Technology. Because we’re all on different timetables we didn’t have a time suitable to meet and record our video outside of the practical sessions. This meant that all the filming and editing had to take place in 1-2 lab sessions.

Q2. The process of creating the video

1st Stage

The group finalised the running order and style of the video and completed the script allocating parts to each member.

2nd Stage

We arranged a space outside the lab to film our introductions. This included straight to camera pieces with members introducing themselves and which part of the Blog they’re responsible for.

3rd Stage

We arranged a space inside the lab and filmed the remaining section of our video, which involved three members of the team showing the different activities that go into the making of the blog: 1) watching shows 2) editing posts 3) uploading posts.

4th Stage

Still in the computer lab, we filmed the final part of the video – the closing statement that Jeremy completed straight to camera.

5th Stage

Editing – initially we had intended to complete the editing in the computer lab during the practical, however the camera that we used required a firewire cable to upload the video to the PC and we did not have one available. This meant that the video had to be edited at home using iMovie HD for Mac. When the editing was in process, it was discovered that one of the clips filmed did not save correctly, consequently one of the ‘to camera’ pieces from Yulia is absent from the finished product.

In addition to the content from the filmed portions, beginning and end titles were added as well as music and an additional audio file that relates to some of the content on the Blog.

6th Stage

Finally, the video was compressed into a Quicktime file and uploaded onto the blog using the Blogger uploading tool.

Q3. How does the video relate to your Blog?

The Blog is about watching and reviewing different TV shows, each team member chose a different genre of TV to review, which includes: Anime, Drama, Comedy and Reality TV. The video relates to the Blog because it shows the different steps that are required to create the posts. It also invites readers to contribute ideas and or suggestions of other TV shows we could review – creating an interactive opportunity for the readers.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta - Blogs - Sheree Whitfield - "Who Gon' Check Me, Boo?" | Bravo TV Official Site

Well - here's a turn up for the books - an official TV site blog that actually has some good content included!

Normally, show blogs which are clearly a contractual obligation for the members of the cast, are very scripted and don't provide an great insight into the things we watch on the show - Bravo TV have clearly gone for the opposite style here.

In line with Episode 1 of Season 2 which I blogged about earlier Sheree has provided a 'full and frank' explanation of what happened with the party planner fight seen in the video I shared.

Here's the Sheree Whitfield Blog:

And my comments to Sheree on her first post, in case it doesn't show up (moderated):

"Wow Sheree - that's some long explanation for what happened!

Season 2 has only just started airing here in Australia and I have to say I was shocked by the behaviour of the Party Planner - however it did make good TV.

I really don't understand how someone can promote a ticketed event on the basis of you showing up when you clearly were not going to - more fool those people who went I guess when they should have known better.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

You can find all the other Atlanta Housewives blogs here.

I'd recommend them as they actually do bother to give their side of the story to each episode - just watch out for spoilers!

For once I'll congratulate Bravo.TV for doing a good job on official blogs - there's just not enough of them!

The Fuzzy Boot Corollary

Episode three...

Continual good effort from the guys at the big bang theory. The story line is kept fresh, the jokes are crisp and the quirkiness tasteful, making one hilarious, salad like, sitcom.

Th ep. starts where Leonard is crushed when he sees Penny kissing another man in the hallway. Faced with the bleak reality of his chances with Penny, he turns his affections toward Leslie, a fellow scientist at the university. His advances, while partially successful, are less than satisfying.

While Sheldon sees no possible future for Leonard and Penny, he feels sympathy for Leonard and suggests that he ask Penny on an actual date. The date, ending with quiet hilarious consequences, rounds off with Leonard's happiness towards the date. Leaving people like me with a nice FUZZY feeling inside.
